was changing the t-stat and I broke this part, what is it called ? It is on a 1989 22re motor.

Pooooop. That sucks. You could try to stick it back together, but I don't see that working well or for long. Time to replace it, make sure it's set up right. Not hard, just time consuming.

I would replace it. Setting them can be a little difficult. I had a spare throttle body assembly and just changed the whole assembly by removing 3 bolts and one nut. Not cheap new if I recall right, but I would get one from the boneyard if it was me.

Yeah, don't buy at the dealer or generic parts chain. You pay way too much or get a junk Chinese unit. Parts yard, or search online, I can't remember the couple sites that have decent prices.

RockAuto has them for $70 on up. ToyotaPartsOverStock.com has OEM for $80-$100 (you need to use your VIN as there are slight differences by configuration).

Considering how many people on this forum have trouble with their (non-broken) TPS, I personally wouldn't think saving $30 at a junkyard would be a good idea.

I would get it from the pick and pull if you have one near you. They are not real hard to set..just need an ohm meter and FSM.

I found a throttle body with the sensor at a bone yard for $60 is that good or bad ?

If you can verify the correct resistances, I don't know, doesn't sound terrible.

Yes that the TPS your getting is good.

What kind of shape is the throttle body in??

Is the shaft tight that moves the butterfly sometimes they wear and starting sucking air.

I will look in the morning if you still might need one.

Yeah, I should have been more clear. If you can verify that it has varying resistance thru the sweep, and correct resistances closed and barely open, it would work. I think the throttle body alone would be worth $60.

the throttle body on my truck is in good shape, I just did a knuckle head move and broke it trying to get the radiator hose off of the t-stat housing. is the tps a pain to install ?

No, not really a pain to install. That part is pretty straightforward. But setting it to get the correct readings will either make you slightly homicidal, or feel like the most successful TPS adjuster ever. If you take your time, setting them per 4crawler's link above, it's not too bad. Just lots of checking and rechecking, tighten screws, ahh crap it moved! Reset, check... It ain't too bad, tho. I'm messin with ya, now.

I have a digital meter and i remember adjusting one on a mustang i used to have. Am i correct that you have to remove the throttle body to install or can it be installed with the throttle body on the truck ?
