I will start by saying I've recently replaced my A/C compressor with a reman Denso and also replaced the dryer.
I ordered this kit for my 86 pickup 22r:



The low side fitting (where I added the arrow) fits great. The high side is just a sleeve that screws over the existing fitting. The problem is, there's a "collar" at the bottom before the threads start. And isn't enough thread to screw on very well. So I got this fitting:




Just your standard high side fitting. However, the nut is too large to really screw down all the way. The problem is the factory R12 fittings are angled and sit on top of the compressor. This is a "ledge" that prevents you from really tightening it. We charged it at work (with a proper machine) and it all leaked out after about 20 minutes. It's leaking out from the high side fitting (oil all over it). Is there a fitting like the top photo but for the high side (smaller nut and therefore fit over the ledge and allow tightening)? I've seached all over and couldn't find anything. I even bought a kit from Walmart that's supposed to charge through low side only (and bypassing my problem). I guess their canned freon sucks because it still doesn't blow cold.

Try some of the 90 Degree adapters that is about all you can do without changing the top plate of the compressors

R12 to 134A 90 degree adapters

I know I had a hard time getting the manifold gauges on the straight adapters

I am surprised no one at work could tell you this

I am also guessing you did not pull a vacuum prior to attempting to charge which would have let you know of the leak.

Sorry this is blurry, tried three times, this is the best! This adapter has two flats on it. Working well. I put a 90° on the low side.

Thank you. I will order that. My problem isn't getting the machine attached to the fittings. That works just fine. It's screwing the new fittings onto the old fittings well enough to get a good seal. I will try and get a good pic to show what I mean.

I actually had a 90° on the high side and it would not seal. I found that fitting in my garage and it worked. Also be sure what size you order, there are different sizes.

This is what I'm working with to give you an idea. This is a Denso reman OEM compressor. We left the low side schrader valve in place and screwed on this fitting. It has it's own valve with a rubber piece to push down on the original valve. It works great. Can you tell me of that Amazon link you posted would work? I'm not sure the original size. I hate to just keep throwing money at it hoping it will work.

Hi, no, I don't know if the one online will work. I would measure it and head to a parts store. I think the one I used would work, but don't remember the size. I'm pretty sure I got it at NAPA. You could take the one that didn't work with you for sizing.
