Need help diagnosing whistling noise...possible transmission problems
Hey all i tried a quick search and couldn't find a hole lot on the topic so i hope someone can help me. First off its a 1990 Toyota 4Runner 22re, 5spd, with 310,000km + a lot of rust. Also runnng 31's on steel rims.
Now the problem is for the past week off and on i hear this whistling or whining sound coming from the back of my truck when i accelerate in a higher rpm range. Its not a loose belt or the ps pump, i know what those sound like. Also starting probably 2-3 weeks ago my tranny has been making a clunking noise whenever i release the clutch.I have not checked the tranny fluid as of yet because i havent had time but its on the list of things to do. It has virtually no power in 5th and just in case it matters i have horrible gas mileage.Somewhere along the lines of 10 or 11. An o2 sensor is o the list of things to do.
Any and all input is appreciated. Thanks to everyone in advance!

While your in there doing your tranny fluid, might want to do the rear diff fluid as well. I have had it make more of a hum than a whistle, but could be a contributing factor. Also for your clunk, change out your spider joints in the drive shaft.
