Need fast! Installing tach!
So the instructions say to use the negative connection on the coil. If I'm reading my manual right, the negative connection on the coil and igniter is the aft bolt that connects it to the truck? Is that right?
If so, that's where I've got it hooked up and it's reading 0 RPMs constantly. I'm not sure what the deal is. The ground that I hooked up to the tach is good because the backlight on the tach works.
I'm trying to get this thing wrapped up tonight and any insight would be awesome. Thanks guys

No, there are three wired connections to the coil, the power (switched by the ignition switch), the negative which leads to the igniter (in 22RE and 3VZE its in the same connector as the power; not sure on the 22R) and the high volt lead to the distrib. It's the negative that leads to the igniter that you need to tap into. There's also probably a lead from the igniter toward the dash that will also have the rpm (IGN) signal, if you can identify it.

Thanks... I figured it out before this... I saw a thread on converting to an s5 instrument cluster and it showed them using the capped off connector that was there so I spliced into that line and it worked perfectly... I hate haynes and chilton manuals.
