My pulley is broke? What is it called?

Okay, here is the problem. I dont know the name of this pulley (im not greatly mechanically inclined) but its not spinning. Its the one the fan comes off of. At first me and my buddy ( who is mechanically inclined) thought it was the alternator the siezed because it wansnt spinning either. I replaced the alternator and that pully dosent move still. Thats when I noticed the other one wasnt spinning. The Power Sterring pump pully is the only one still spining but the belt itself stays still. So if anyone knows what that pully is called, what it does, and how to fix it, I would be greatly appreciated.

On a side note, It was running fantastic all day in the mountains. Went over ruff terrain, through mud/watter pools, snow and took a small tree out. On the way back is when it broke down...

Assuming a 22R or 22RE (4 cyl) engine, that fan is mounted to the end of the water pump pulley (the round thing with 4 mounting studs on the front of the engine below):

If that pulley is attached to the water pump, perhaps the pump is seized up. Of if that is separate from the pump, then the bearing that the pulley spins on is shot, as ed above. I know there is on pulley on the V6 that has a separate, non-replaceable bearing and the whole bracket needs to be replaced.

Is there a way to tell if its the bearing before I pull. Im kinda low on cash and have to do it myself (w/buddy) if possible. I dont want to buy another part and not be it... did that with the alternator last night.

Take the belt or belts off and try to turn them by hand. The only one that should not move freely is the crank pulley. Good luck

Okay so will that tell me that its the bearings that are bad? So it will still spin if the bearings are okay and its the pump that's messed? Sorry im relaying this to my friend and he is asking questions. He helps me on all my work. We brake knuckles all the time figuring out these issues.

Just a suggestion, but it might help if you take the belt off like was said, try turning each of the pulleys by hand, figure out which one doesn't turn and then take a picture pointing to the one that doesn't turn. Pictures always help around here.

sometimes over tightining it would cause it to be like that. Or most likely the bearing is shot.

I suggest, removing the belt then removing the pully and WD-40ing that sucker!!!

if its the pulley with the fan clutch attached to it. I think its called the "False water pump idler bracket/pulley". 3vze has a waterpump powered by the timing belt.

I had this bracket seize on my 3.0 v6. Do a search on here for that pulley. I know many people say only go with OEM because the aftermarket ones can explode when they fail and then it tears up the rad and front of the motor.

Good luck.

If the bearings are bad it should be very difficult to turn, if you can turn it at all.

The fan pulley is just a bracket and not connected to the water pump. But it is incredibly expensive to buy new http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_198...html?hl=16307A so I'd look in the junk yard or parts recyclers.

This is the same bracket correct?

http://shop.oreillyauto.com/ProductD...tNumber=300800

And do I need to buy anything else to change out these parts or is all the parts reusable, as far as the fan gears and such???
