Well today I picked up this 86 4runner. 4 cyl AUTO.. my first auto yota and 1st gen 4runner. I had bought it for parts... the tires, clean doors, fender, and I was gonna part out the rest. I still might!
It doesn't run right now, and I was told it jumped timing and probably bent a valve. Well... I pulled the valve cover and the timing chain and top sprocket look very nice actually, so I am thinking this is NOT what happened. After giving it a rough once-over I noticed the rubber line from the fuel pump had been cut.. no wonder it wouldn't start. So I droped the tank.. I have an extra fuel bracket lying around and a good fuel pump, so.. I think I will buy the fuel line and see if I could get her running!

The frame if covered in scales, but seems solid underneath with no apparent rot holes. Maybe needs a shock tower on one side. Clean body except the pass. fender had a small crinkle, and the rear quarters... well, need I say more?

Brown interior, non-SR5, 15X,XXX miles, new front end parts, battery, starter, tires, plugs, wires, ECU, brake shoes/cylinder. I think it is worth getting the line and trying to get her started. Only other thing I noticed is the rubber brake line on the drivers side is cut, for some reason..

So here is the crappy pic I took with my phone at night. I'll be playing with it over the weekend to see what else I can find out.

Anyone know how to figure out if it jumped timing???

Set the crank at zero (TDC) on the compression stroke, and see if the cam gear notch is pointed straight up. (remember that since the crank spins 2:1 to the cam it may be 180 off, in which case just rotate the drank one revolution) if it points straight up, to the correct timing mark, you are in time.
