My auto shifter is not shifting!!! HELP! PLZ!

Hi Yotatech,

93' Auto, V6

Yesterday I was leaving for work and my shifter would not go into drive, or anything else. I stepped on the brake with the car running and the button on the shifter would not push in. Thankfully Toyotas have the "shift lock override" button...

Is there a linkage between the brake pedal and the shifter? I tried searching with no luck.

Thanks in advance.

Check your brake lights and/or brake fuse.
My tow light harness would blow brake light fuses constantly when it got wet.
Finally removed the harness

^X2, the same thing was happening to me last week. I was blowing fuses like crazy. I ended up having a short in the trailer light harness from it rubbing on the frame.

I don't have any blown fuses.

Would a short in the brake lights cause the auto shifter to not go out of park?

unless I push the shift lock override button, I cant shift from Park to anything else...

Yes, and it's a good warning.
It keeps you from driving around without brake lights.
