My 2nd 86 Turbo Runner - Pics
Hey guys. I bought my 86 Turbo 4-runner about a month ago then after doing a head gasket on it found this one in much better condition and bought it. The other one will be forsale soon. Both are 1986 Turbo 4-runner with everyhting the same. Pictures of the first one are here - https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...runner-130167/
Here it is when I got it...
I traded the 31s off the other truck along with the tailights I had...
I am very happy with this truck besides the SBS which will be fixed when I trade for the springs off the other one, and the fact that it is so slow I feel unsafe pulling onto the road. I was getting about 12mpg with the 29s and its not much different with the 31s, hopefully the new throttle cable I picked up will help a little. The old one was really hard to push.
Happy Superbowl everyone!!!

I have no idea why its slow, but we will see what happens with the new throttle cable. But its still a 4 banger just with a small turbo on it. IIRC the non-turbos were rated at 116 stock and the turbos were rated at 136. Someone correct me if im wrong.

That is an awesome looking truck! I love the classic look of that "electronic display" (I think I wanna try find one for my truck ) That 4-Runner looks mean and clean, great find IMO.

Nice truck. I really want to do the 5-speed swap as well. The other one I have would squeal the tires witht the 31s on it but it is intercooled.

They are rated at 145 HP, One reason why there are slow is the auto trans that is behind them. I just swapped over to 5-Speed and that made a huge difference. Check out my swap...

I took the top off today, first time its EVER been off. Really nice to drive, right now the weather is great for topless driving. And I know everyone only wants the pictures so here you go...
I also did the "Maglite Mod" with a Mini Mag. (Dont laugh, its man pink.)
So I decided to see how low I could get my milage and ended up with a whopping 8mpg! How come the fun drivng costs so much.

Hey, look in some of the first pictures, did the turbo trucks come with the gay spoiler on the back? Cause I was just gonna trash it, but if it was stock then I'll keep it around. I saw one on someone elses turbo runner thats why I asked.

So I've been driving it for about 2 weeks now and I've learned how to drive it a little better. I shift into low range and then to 2nd and into drive, accelerates much better that way and I can pull onto the road without feeling like I'm going to be rear ended because im so slow. Milage is 8-12 and I cant wait to get a manual transmission in it. Im looking into just getting a donor truck and need to know what years have the right transmission. I found a 90 pickup with a blown head gasket for 500 bucks, would this work?
Thanks for all your help and comments.
