My 1st gen 4runner Roof Rack

Well finished up my roof rack, the artificial gutter mounts, bike mount, and axe/shovel mounts today.......just need to add some eye hooks on the side and a cargo net. Went for a light weight low profile style sine these trucks are slow enough!

turned out pretty good considering it cost not a whole lot and was built using raw materials and no cutoff saw (neeeeed one of these)

Anyways thought I would post this up as it was near impossible to find 1st gen 4runner roof rack pics.

lol the axe is really close to the roof so I would have to hit my head first then slide up and hit the axe

Maybe the highway patrol shooting you through the door, then yelling "FREEEZE!!!" at the top of his scared little lungs.

Where'd you get those gutter mounts? I'd like to build something like this someday.

I like how you low profiled the rack placing it UNDER the crossbars. Good thinking.

Glad you didn't get rid of your rig.

I built the gutter mounts but you can buy them from yakima or off ebay (under artificial gutter mounts). All I did is took some flat stock and some angle iron, welded em together and viola gutter mounts for like $5 instead of
around $30

Ya I'm not a big fan of racks that stick way up and have huge sides when It's really unnessasary Function > form.........this thing is strong enough to hold anything I would put up there. Mostly though it's for my bike, camp chairs, grill, and some gas.

I'm happy with the Runner now and glad to have it back up and going but if it has another major breakdown within in the year I may burn it to the ground.

Okay, got it. Just to be sure, the clamps themselves are from the bike rack, right?

The clamps that go to the gutter mounts are yakima units

I made it out of 7/8th" bar stock and 1/2" round stock
