Mustang Seats in 93 Pick-Up
i searched and searched, but could not find any info on how to install ford mustang bucket seats. it was more of an urban legend than anything else. however, after a good day of work, i finally got the driver's seat to fit.
first i took the brackets off of both seats. the mustang seat:
here you can see the mustang bracket (back, with all the motors), the yota bracket (the pair of tracks), and the yota seat:
the mustang seat had holes that lined up almost perfectly. just needed to tap them:
so i did. i was surprised that they were metric bolts on the ford seats:
some minor enlargement of the hole was necessary:
i needed to extend the adjustment lever. more on that later:
here's the yota bracket on the ford seat:
and how all the holes lined up:
front left:
front right:
back left:
back right:
almost a direct fit. at least i didn't have to make anything too complex or heavy. the brackets that were made were tiny:
a square hole to accommodate the carriage bolt:
and how they're mounted:
they go on first, followed by the seat:
and they're out of the way:
now, for the handle. i had to extend it, so the first thing to do was cut it:
then i found some tube that just fit around the outside:
and welded a small piece on the handle side. this is before mounting it:
finally, a hole was drilled and a bolt inserted. that was the last step (besides re-installing the seat):
and the final product:
compared to:
the passenger seat will be slightly different, but the same concept
.

Thanks for the great writeup. The new seats look very comfortable. Have you found any good junkyards in NOVA? I live in Richmond.

ha, no. you probably are closer to fredricksburg than i am, and i hear there's some good ones down there. but all the mexicans take the good yota parts around here, so it's slim pickin's.
and continuing with junkyards, i need to pick up more seat brackets. the passenger seat (toyota) is completely different from the driver's. i need to either pick up another driver's seat bracket or passenger's from a bucket. anyone have pics of the underside of a passenger bucket (sr5) or something like that?

What I would HIGHLY suggest is to get rid of that carriage bolt and upgrade to a grade 8 bolt. I bet that bolt would shear off in an accident but other than that cool job!!

The little strap thingies will move and bend long before the bolts break. I can't see why he didn't just bolt them through? I'm not sure how much the seat bolts really hold because if you crash, the seatbelts will do 98%.
Oh and thanks for the pics. They are the best ones I have seen. And confirming you need more seat rails if you have the stupid bench.

just an update on the seats: i have yet to find grade 8 carriage bolts. i got into a little fender-bender, and nothing came loose, broke, or shifted
also got the lumbar support to work. just a few feet of wire and finding the right place to put them. i still need to run them under the carpet, but at least they're under the mat
and whenever i do the passenger seat (no, still not done), i'll be sure to post that up here as well

What year Mustang are those seats out of? Cause I've always thought the SN-95 and New Edge Mustangs(94-2004) had the most uncomfortable seats ever. Even worse than the bench seat in my reg cab 93, which doesn't lean back.

I've heard the SC300-400 seats are REALLY nice, ......and the 96+ 4Runner Seats as well. I'd REALLY like to do this mod/swap, fo sho! lol.
Just wanted to re-"KUDOS" ya for the great job and write up, Ian... Nice!

they are out of a 94 mustang gt. i like them, they're more comfy than my 60/40
the only thing that could be better it the head-rest. it could stand to be moved a few inches forward. that's all. but these seats are so comfy that i've fallen asleep in them easily.
now that i know how easy it is to swap seats, i might look at other seats that might be in a little better shape, or not... i dunno
