MOD: Installing PC speakers in Single Cab. HACK
Ok so I recently tore out an old alarm/remote start and a few months ago had some1 rip the deck off my medicore CD changer. I have been working to improve my truck and I really needed a decent stereo with MP3 abilty. with a little creative thinking and internet research I have created a easy DIY speaker setup that require no custom box.
Materials you need.
5.1 computer speaker system of choice.
soldering iron
solder
14 gauge wire
switch of some sort.
Run a new ground wire behind your seat, and a new power wire from the battery into the cab. I have a fuse on this, as well as a cutoff switch (my speakers draw power when not in use if pluged in).
Take apart your sub. some subs have a full 120 AC -> DC converter, usually 13.4 or 14v.
Mine had an AC stepdown, and a converter on the circuit board. I removed the stepdown and installed a positive lead on the on the circuit boards postive BUS, and a negitive to the boards ground. After this I ran the wires out of the box via some makeshift holes. (ill clean this up later but it was fast for testing). I then disconnceted the truck battery, connected the postive and ground wires in the truck to the leads on the box, and reconnceted the batter. I have a 3 ->1 3.5mm audio cable to spread my phones stereo signal across all the audio channels.
It works perfect.
This is the only pic I took (sorry i didnt take pics of the circuit board)
I wanted to post this in the eletric write up section, but I dont have permissions.
