Manual Swap?
I bought an 87 22re auto yota this last summer and found that it was leaking tranny fluid. MY mechanic told me i should just scrap the auto and do a man swap. He said look on craigs and ebay but being in high school im pretty green to knowing what parts i'll need, is it going to be best just to buy a donor truck or could i just buy the parts somewhere online for a lil more money, I can't find anywhere online to aid me so i'd appreciate the input and sorry for the newb questions.

Welcome to yota tech. There are a few threads on swaps but none in real great detail. Best idea is to get a donour truck and park it next to your auto and swap it straight across. Main stuff you will need is the tranny/tcase of coarse, flywheel, clutch master, clutch pedal/linkages, and you will need the ecu off a standard donour or you will have to trick your automatic ecu to think its in neutral. This is a quick sum up of what you have to do. Im doing this swap to my dd in about 2-3 weeks. soon as i get garage access so i can pm you the linky to my swap thread.

Its pretty straight forward and you can find all the info you'll need on this site for the swap.
Mainly you need the tranny/tcase combo (best bet is the w-56 A or B), clutch, flywheel, get new clutch master and slave cylinders, the hard line that connect them and the clutch pedal assembly. If the tranny you get doesn't come with the mount you'll need that also since the auto and manual ones are different.
You can re-use your crossmember and drive shafts. Your ECU will work, no matter what one you have manual or auto you will need to fool it into thinking your truck is in neutral when you go to start it.
You do this by jumping the neutral safety switch connector which is in the engine compartment.
You will also have to make the hole in the floor larger for your shifters. I never got the reverse lights working on mine so I can't help with that part.
Once you get all the parts just yank out the auto and bolt up the manual. I'm sure there are parts I'm forgetting since it been 5yrs since I swapped mine but someone else should chime in.

I found this deal nearby where i live and wanted some confirmation that this is the w56 i need... Is it reasonably priced in your opinion or should i wait? Should i have my mechanic examine it before making a purchase?

I'm over in Jefferson and I'm doing a manaul swap too on my 86.
If your engine is a 22re then a w56 would work just fine!
Its a pretty good price. I bought my tranny for $100 w/ $60 part and $50 for a t-case, so I spent $210.

W-56's range from A-E . I prefer the A and B because those are the ones meant for my truck and the have a top shift t-case. The C-E's have a forward shift style. If it only has one spot for a shifter on the tranny then its an A or B but if it has 2 spots for shifters (Tranny and tranfer) it is a C-E version. If this is confusing go to the marlin crawler website and look at the different transmissions.
And $300 isn't too bad of a price I paid $150 for one once and kept the t-case and resold just the tranny for $150.
