Low Oil Pressure, High Coolant Temp, Misfiring, Perfect Compression 1995 4Runner 3VZE
Hello YotaTech community,
50 miles after a head gasket replacement on my 1995 4Runner 3VZE 4WD, it feels like I've lost compression. My veezy was running smooth (10 deg. BTDC, 775 idle, perfect coolant temp and oil pressure, perfect "giddyup" on acceleration, no funny noises), then just decided to lose torque, spike coolant temp and drop off oil pressure.
My coolant was indeed low from a small leak in the hose to my cabin heater. The coolant temp needle hit the red zone for about 45 seconds before I was able to safely pull off the road and shut off the engine. I refilled the radiator with water, but engine performance was still poor. The engine sounded like it was missing a cylinder, the coolant temp was spiking when decelerating, and EOP was nearly flatlining.
I assume it's a blown HG. I checked the dry compression, and I found about 165 psi on all cylinders, with a variance between cylinders of +/- 5 psi. I found #4 plug wire attached but a little loose (found that out by getting zapped by distributor), but engine performance made no change after securely attaching it. All plugs and wires were checked.
Is it possible that I have a blown head gasket with good compression? After the engine is cooled off, the EOP and coolant temp will sit fine at idle (EOP may be related to 5W-30 oil), but the engine will still be gutless/missing a cylinder.
Any ideas?
