Yeah, when I got mine from the dealer the tech was like.. hmm they say its a lifetime filter.. Im like. No, there is no such thing as a lifetime filter.
too bad the lines on mine are rusted and stripped. Some doofus tried to use vice grips or something on them..

Its been sitting for a LONG time. I put 5 gallons of fresh gas in it and it ran "marginally" okay. Wouldnt go over 30mph though. I drained the gas tank already, and I'm in the process of swapping injectors and cleaning the intakes (both pieces!)

Step 1: Remove the engine
Step 2: Locate fuel filter
Step 3: replace
Fuel filter on the 22re, at least, is a pain to get to. I've been told you can access it from the passenger wheel well...but I didn't see a way to do this. I replaced mine while the head gasket was off. This is most likely not a 15 minute project and should be saved for a weekend project if you have other things to do on the engine.

Best time to do it is either during a clutch replacement, or head removal. The filter is located above the starter, under the intake assembly, behind alot of hoses and stuff. Royal pain to get to.
I replaced mine last fall when I did the clutch, 167,000 miles on the o.g. and it was fairly clean, but I'm glad I replaced it.

I love the way the Suzuki sidekicks have them. They are right in front of the gas tank and changing the fuel filter is a 5 minute job. Of course, when I changed it it turned into 15 minutes because I had to clean up after i got sprayed in the face with gasoline because I forgot to remove the battery cable and relieve fuel pressure in the system.

I ask what motor it is because that will allow us to tell you where the fuel filter is located.
On the 3.0 assembly. the fuel filter is located on the inside of the frame rail right near the passenger side torsion bar adjustment.
Not exactly sure on the 22re location.
