Longer valve cover studs? (pictures of why)
Bear with me on this one.
22re in the 89 4runner. I plan to pull the hood off and mount my Supra AFM (MAF, whatever) on top of the valve cover and cut in a hood scoop for clearance and a place to mount the air filter so I'm not sucking up hot air from the engine compartment, and it'll put the intake up a little higher for water crossings.
OK what I need to know is if I can actually use longer studs in the valve cover. I can fab an aluminum plate with 2" stand offs to get the plate above the valve cover and mount the AFM on that plate. What I need are the studs that hold the valve cover down but I need them 2" longer than stock.
Is this something that I can snag at a "house of studs"? I tried the local parts house but trying to explain what I wanted to do to that guy was, well....... it was painful and actually got me nowhere.
Thanks.
Oh the reason I want to do this is so I can install a second battery under the good to run the welder.
edit: Pictures of what I have in mind.
Don't look so much at the wiring just the placement of the AFM. Heck it might look neat with just the top of the hood cut out.

hmm i think it could work. the only potential problem i see is that the the valve cover bolts are not suppose to get tightened all that much, though i don't know how much support you will need to mount it either. is there any extra bolt holes on the top of the valve cover you could use? or spots you could drill and tap?

A buddy across the street said that it would look like an EFI blower sticking up out of the hood. That right there made me want to do it.
