Locker Q front/rear
i just bought a detroit ez locker
does it matter front or rear it shouldnt right its going on a straight axle truck
Does any one know were step by step istructions are at? for a toy 8"

Steps 13-18 should be paid attention to. THe rest is obvious.
The only difficult part for the first timer is resetting the backlash. This is only because most you get impatient and don't read instructions. It isn't hard at all once you figure out how.
Mark the position of the adjuster nuts with a punch, install the locker itself (easiest thing in the world), and then put the carrier and bearing races back in their position, install the ring gear adjuster nut (the side the teeth face away from) and tighten it all the way, install the other side and tighten it as well. Now there will be no "backlash". Back of the adjuster nuts til they line up with the marks.
Now you reinstall the bearing caps. If there is little or no preload, tighten both nuts one notch at a time until you cannot move the ring gear with one finger anymore.

Front locker better for
Rear locker better for
- rock climbing
- when you are scared to death of driving around town with a locker in the rear
- when steering is not a primary concern
Rear locker better for
- IFS (weak compared to rear axle)
- driving on snow in 4wd on road
- easier to steer in 4wd
- hill climbing

I thought I screwed it up the first time but I just didn't read the instructions (#13 - 18 in the link above). Stupid me cause I paid someone $80 to correct the mess. With a dial indicator it is laughable how easy it is.

it cost a 100 bucks shipped to my door deal and i dont have to mess with my gears
but i think you missed my main Q The locker doessnt have front only application or a rear only application you can install it were ever you want right so for example if this locker came out of the rear i can put it up front right?
