Lift Ig-na-ray-moose

I am a admitted lift noob. My 88 pickup was lifted 3-4" by the previous owner. I like the way it looks, but I'm ditching my 33s and going with something closer to 30, and don't want to lift to look goofy.

I know it's a suspension lift, but I don't much about it and I'm looking for options.

What's the simplest option for a guy with some mechanical aptitude?
Can I drop it down? Is removal a fairly straightforward task? I'm hearing it's a lot of work. Does that mean special tools are needed?

Thanks folks.
