Lets talk about exhaust
Hey people wanting to do some exhaust upgrades to my 1988 22re. Wanting some input on header to get. What size pipes am thinking the flow master muffler. And will removing the cat be a gain or lose to power. As do that this engine is now in my 75 Celica and do not have smog inspections here. I was thinking 2 an 1/2 pipe but was told 2 inch would be better which is bigger than my stock one now. What cha think any takers. And yes i am on a budget so can not go to hog wild just want a little more out of her. Thanks Jeff Mc

As far as headers go, I have the LC Engineering (although it's not installed) and let me say WOW the quality is fantastic!
I have heard other people say Doug Thorley is good although I have no experience with that brand aside from helping a friend install one on a Nissan Frontier.
As far as the rest goes, I think 2.25" piping is the recommended diameter.

I have a Northwest offroad header, hi flow cat, and a flowmaster 40 thats getting installed next week. Northwest offroad header looks built well. I dont really like the knuckle/slip flange style but it should work.

They both are great performing exhaust system for a daily driver and also was custom bent by using the factory hookups but less restrictive bends.
Both headers are easy to install with bolt on flanges.

Anyone ordered from these guys?

Any opinions on this? Is a high-flow cat a must?

I've got the LCE header, cat, flowmaster 40, tail pipe exits to the driver's side behind the rear axle. 2.25" pipe throughout. Quite a big improvement over stock.
I will never recommend that someone run without a catalytic converter even if you don't have emissions testing. I'm no green-y eco nut but there's no reason to go around polluting for no damn reason. A good cat that isn't clogged won't hurt your performance.
