Just replaced shifter seat and...
No noticeable difference. There is still a lot of slop in my shifter. I'm now trying to understand if maybe the shift lever is to blame or the mechanism in my ~330k transmission. The shift seat I took out didn't look too bad, though the top of it had worn out. Anyone have any information about what may be causing my slop? Because apparently that wasn't it.

Thank you for this Dan. I might add to anyone looking to do this to get the shift handle boot as well. Mine was brittle and tore the second I worked it up. Also available from marlin. I'll update once I get it here and put it in. I obviously took the noob approach and just bought the first thing I saw that I thought was the problem, but thank you for taking the time to help me and even give me the link. Already ordered so now it's time to play the waiting game again.

The rivets in the shift seat that locate the shifter might also be worn out.
These rivets are the 2 that you have to wedge the shifter seat around so it'll fit.
When you pull the shifter you'll see what I'm talking about.

What is the best way to tell if they're worn out? I'm not sure exactly what I should be looking for on them.

Promised update:
Part came in. I put it in. Feels like I've installed a new transmission. My only gripe now is that when pulled left in neutral, the shifter doesn't relocate to the middle, though when pulled out pushed to the right, still in neutral, it will relocate to the middle. Still, there's ~325,000 miles on this tranny.
