i didn't take any pics during the install but its the only shiny piece in the engine bay now. i didn't even need to replace the head gasket but i had oil leak where the the timing cover meets the heads and got tired of it marking its territory. if any one cares i used ted's head bolts and a toyota head gaskets and torqued it to ted's spec's

Thats the basic build I am planning, but I have second and third guessed the cam choice. I was considering the more mid cam 268 or 270 but after a ton of research, the Compcam seems to be a great/better choice.........wish I could make a decision.

Hows the idle with the 261 cam? Im looking at doing the same mod, well, the cam anyway and stock rebuild of the head. Would I be happy with this or should I just fork out the buck and install the Teds RV head as well?

im having some idle issues right now but i think its do to a fuel injector or a vacuum leak, but you can tell the motor sounds like a cammed 4cyl now and the exhaust has a nice lope to it.The head is defiantly worth it, after your off idle the motor seems to run smoother and quieter. i spent around 560 for head ,cam and new head bolts and when i ordered he had free shipping and around $32 for a headgasket from trdparts4u.com.

Thanks for the reply I just got off the phone with Todd at engine builder and ordered the 261 and the steel rail timing kit. Ive decided to keep the stock head and just have it reworked ya know valves ground new seals and such.
My 92 only has 138K on it, plus I dont do allot of heavy crawling mostly back road kind of stuff and weekend road trips. Im going to do a build thread on this site when I get going on it in the next month or so....Toy
