Just got my front gears!
UPS just dropped off my front 5.29's from J.T. at justdifferentials.com I put them in the rear a week and a half ago with the help of ZUK and his site. I love driving it with the new gears but I can't use 4wd. I took out the front driveshaft to prevent any problems.
Now, I have everything I need to install them, but if I wait a week I could order an Aussie. I have one in the rear already, but it would be pretty badass to be locked all the way around. I just have to be able to install it before school starts. Then I have to go up or through something with it!

^ haha, i just stomped my buddies pathfinder with his open/open and mine locked in the rear. I had bald tires in the back and his were near brand new. I made it over stuff in 2wd he couldn't make it in 4wd!

That IFS will be under a greater strain with a front locker. Your steering will be easier offroad with an open front...your arms will appreciate it and your steering box will be cooler.....that rear locker is what gives you the best bang for the buck...that and 10 psi tire pressure

That IFS will be under a greater strain with a front locker. Your steering will be easier offroad with an open front...your arms will appreciate it and your steering box will be cooler.....that rear locker is what gives you the best bang for the buck...that and 10 psi tire pressure

Just for the sake of curiosity, if I put a truetrac in it could I run 4wd all the time?
So now I'm strongly considering doing it this weekend and leaving it opened.

Okay. Open it will be. I opened the box. It's funny. It looks like they have been setup. There's marking compound on the ring and a pattern in it. There is also a mark that says .007". I took pictures.
Edit: Now that I've read the instructions that came with the gears I know that they were setup at the factory and checked. Just another measure for good quality. I look forward to this install.

I SAS'd it not more than 2 weeks later. Save for the SAS but if I were you I would not put a dime into the front anymore.
BTW the compound marking is used to test to make sure its setup properly.

If I had run into a front axle for a descent price in my area by now I would have snatched it up. But you're right. After this gear install I'll start keeping an eye out for an axle. Then I'll start thinking about which kit I want to use and if I want to lock it up or not. I could see that being a real money hole, worth it though.

5.29's with your set up- I bet that rig is BALLS-E.......thats probably why he went with it Mic. that and if your in school and graduating you can turn the ol yot into a full time trail rig and get a taco for a daily d once you start making money.
