jb weld knuckle ball - pitted knuckle ball

Im cleaning up my axle housing i bought for my sas, and it appears there are nice patches of pitting on the knuckle balls. Since ive never had a solid front, I dont know how much pitting is bad, but I would rather have none if I can since i like doing it right the first time these days.

ive found some folks talking about the jb weld trick, and saw a pic or two, but no real low down on it. thin layer then sand, or thick layer? anyone done this/or is it as sketchy as it sounds.

any other tricks? I saw one guy who polished the turd off, but wont this make it not fit the knuckle as well?

any advice helps, thanks.

I just used a putty knife and spread on a very thin layer so the pitting was visibly filled. Waited for it to dry then lightly sanded over with 400 grit. I've yet to see any grease getting past the seal/felts, or water getting in.

I don't think it's very shady, JB Weld is some tough stuff, and it isn't like that surface is under a load. It doesn't take all that much either.
