It's back!!! Dreaded Code 71
I have been restoring my 17 year old son's 94 DLX pickup 5 speed 4x4 22RE (replacement motor put in by PO) and have been chasing an EGR code over the last year. I started with the replacing the vacuum lines and checking the routing. As near as I can tell they are all good, although I have no connection to the Q port on the EGR modulator. I assume that is ok since I have not found any open vacuum port. Then I replaced the modulator, then the EGR valve and finally the EGR temperature sensor. The code 71 usually came back after a few days. Any thoughts on how I can finally get rid of it? Truck is in nice shape, recently painted with new decals about to go on, but this CEL is driving me nuts. Appreciate any advice.

I believe Q connects to the TVV for the EGR. http://web.archive.org/web/201108151...18egrsyste.pdf Hard to imagine that it would work with that disconnected.
(A California truck uses a VSV instead of a TVV.)

my 88 4Runner has the 3vz and it's always on too. I have a few EGR valves in the garage and kept swapping them until i found one that was decent, but the code still pops up after about 30-45 minutes of driving.
I still pass smog this way. So I said screw it. lol
