It's Alive!!!
For those of you who remember my recent threads while dropping in my rebuilt 22RE.. well, I finally got everything sorted out and it runs great! I'd also like to thank Olharleyman, Raydouble, and Bleeder for their much appreciated help!! This forum is awesome!
I finally got my timing woes worked out by following the FSM instructions for installing the distributor... turns out I had the dist. shaft off by atleast a tooth
After I fixed that, it started right up and ran well, so I set the timing and idle speed then took it out to seat the rings. After a good 20 minute run, I am draining the oil and replacing it with 15w 40 diesel oil for the rest of break-in.
Now another question. I messed with the dash pot set screw and the throttle stop set screw at one point in order to get the idle right... how do I get both of those where they need to be? I am having a little issue with high idle at times, and a bouncing idle speed, and I think its the dash pot plunger interfering.

OH! ...and thank you to "theAuthority" for helping me with my major oil holocaust! If it weren't for him, I'd still be losing oil all over the place!!
Really, though thanks to all who chimed in and offered help. It saved me alot of headache and time. I only mentioned those 3 by name as they conversed with me in detail through PMs and phone calls to get me through some of this.

Ok, pics on request-
I haven't added up all my receipts yet, but with the purchase price of the truck ($1200), and all costs for a complete rebuild, new oil and water pump, plugs wires, cap rotor everything to seal it up, and misc. fasteners... jeez! you guys know, the list goes on and on... I'm into it a little less than $3k and with a brand new motor!

I've done head gaskets before that required a couple top-offs before the system worked out all its bubbles.

Another question-
The machinist that rebuilt my motor also set it up with the timing chain set and set the valve adjustment to spec. When i first started it, I noticed that it sounded a little ticky, should I be adjusting the valves now or sometime during break in?

When I do mine I park with the front end higher than the rear, and turn on my heater ( the heater core can hold air ). My cousin filled his and topped it off twice after his new engine, a week later it was low.

x2 on turning on the heater. Air pockets like to hide there. 1.5" down in the radiator sounds reasonable to me. Top it off, and add some to your overflow tank. Run it up to operating temp, then park it and let it cool all the way down. Then you can check your coolant level again. You should be good after that. Just remember to fill your overflow back to the full line again.
