ISR mod with Spectre intake questions

I have a '95 4Runner 3VZE and wanting to do the ISR mod and it looks like buying the Spectre intake might be the easier more simple way to do this. I've spent quite a bit of time reading through the numerous posts regarding this mod but still haven't found quite what I'm looking for. My 4Runner is my daily driver and to do this I would prefer to have all the parts I need before tearing everything apart to avoid having to put the old stuff back in to go get what I need. Anyway, for those of you that have used the Spectre intake from autozone, do you have a list or could tell me what else is needed and the sizes of fittings I'll need to do this? It would be much appreciated and thanks!

Anyone with experience using the spectre imtake for this mod? It would be really nice to know before hand if I need anymore couplers and if I do which size? Also, it would be nice to know how much I need to cut off the spectre intake if any? Thanks

If you care about mileage, power, and noise, you'll leave it stock. If you want a cool sound and look (if you're in to that), buy the CAI as a starting point and start hacking and cutting to please. That kit won't contain all the things you need, but autozone will have enough pieces to hack it together. Throttle bodies are usually 2.75". Just mimic the stock intake and hook your hoses in appropriately.

I'm not really into the look or sound. More interested in better throttle reaponse and hopefully better take off speed. Hoping to get rid of some of the sluggishness at the beginning. Not sure I want to invest the money in a CAI an then modify it up unless you know of a cheap one. I also don't really want to have an exposed air filter even though I know that would probably help some. If I were to go the CAI route which one would you recommend?

Luckily the answer will save you money a fab time. I simply would not. For power or mileage, stock is the best. It's been shown time and again. The CAI will pull hot air from the engine compartment. The stock intake pulls cool air from behind the headlight. If you are wanting more throttle response I can not help. In good tune, the 3vze should be a torquey will motor. Not a lot of power but it gets around nicely.

Yeah, my mileage is pretty good and I'm sure I won't get any better than what I get now. (16.5-21 depending on city or highway). Was mainly hoping for some better throttle response at initial take off. Other than that I can live with it being slow and under powered. Haha

Sounds like you're in pretty good tune. Make sure you throttle cable doesn't have any slack in it. You'd see a drop in mileage, I'm almost willing to put money on it, if you went with the "CAI". Make sure your plugs are fresh and injectors are clean. Otherwise, enjoy it. I always did like the 3vze even though it's cluttered, loud, like to pop head gaskets, poor mileage, low power.... oh what am I saying? I'm a glutton for punishment, I guess. :-)

I took some slack out of the throttle cable a while back and that helped some. Put new plugs in last year. Haven't cleaned the injectors yet. Done some reading on that and just haven't had the time yet. Any recommendations on a good way to clean them or how do you do it? Thanks!

Disagree, Though I have not used the Spectre products for SRS mods I have done 8 SRS mods and all with positive affect and minute noise change.

I do agree if done with bad product or carelessly it can have adverse affects.

Yeah, I've good things abut the ISR mod also. I prefer to do it as simple as possible and figured buying the Spectre intake would be the more simple route. Don't really want a CAI kit nor the open air filter involved with that. Because this is my only vehicle I was hoping to hear from those that have used the Spectre kit so I can get what I need before tearing things apart.
