Ignition control/Ignitor

What all does the ignitor do? I know it is tied into the distributer, coil, wiring harness, and some sort of device is attached to the last connector but what is each connections purpose? Also what is the device with the two wires and the forked end? Thanks for any help.

Controls dwell time...google it, im to tired to write.

The other fork looking things (if we are talking about the same thing) are noise suppressors. The ignition system as a whole can be noisy (electrically) and can interfere with other signals in the system.
