ignition coil interchangeability

I've got a 86 pickup that I believe to have a bad ignition igniter, but when I went to remove the one from my 94 pickup, I noticed they were different. Can they be used between each other, with or without the coil?

The ignitor and the coil are two seperate parts, so you need to figure out which one is bad. The coil is a cheap part to buy, but the ignitor can be very expensive.

The igniter is bad. But I noticed that the one on my 94 has a different number on it then the one on my 86. I'm assuming they can't be changed

I have read on here, were people have unsoldered the plugs from a diferent ignitor and soldered the plugs from there bad ignitor onto the new one and it worked. All you can do is try it, it might work.

Yeah I can see that. But for that much work I might as well just buy a new one
