Igniter repeatedly shorts out

my igniter has shorted out 3 times now, just wondering if anyone has suggestions of what's causing it before i blindly go searching for some problem that i probably won't be able to recognise.

When I replace the igniter the truck works fine for a while. Drove from Nelson to Vancouver just fine, with a trailer. Then igniter shorted up a logging road, replaced it and worked fine for a bit. This most recent time (2 days later) I was up a logging road near Sechelt and when i put the truck into reverse, it died. It started up again, drove a little bit, went to reverse again and it died. Then wouldn't start again, making the same noises as before I replaced the igniter.

You say your igniter shorts

Just what pray tell are you driving?? I have igniters with 1/2 a million miles on them

What brand igniters are you replacing them with you seem to have found a bunch of bad ones

Is it causing the EFI or the ignition fuse to open??

92 3.0 ext cab.

I've just been using the same denso igniter for the wreckers. I doubt I've gotten 2 bad ones, but it's possible I guess. More than likely something else is causing the problem there.

All fuses look fine.. still doesn't start after removing them. Should I just get new plugs anyways?

If it is a short that means Voltage is going to ground .

Something is arcing or burning that is a short .

If no circuit protection is open you most likely don`t have a short

Unless you find melted and burnt wires causing a open circuit acting like a fuse.

Is you igniter plug melted ??.

Sounds to me more like you have a loose connection causing a open circuit .

Is the igniter ground vibrating loose ??

Seems to happen on the bumpy logging roads

Are your plugs in need of being replaced ?? Just what do they look like ??
