IFS "upgrade" parts
My IFS is dead. Its at my parents shop, but a buddy listed several parts that need fixed. I bought the truck ('90 pickup 22re) as a project, its beat to hell. Planning on a daily driver/fully capable wheeler. I want to run 33's on the IFS. I am wondering if there are any stronger parts for the front that wont get beat up. Or should I put some stock parts (junk yard as much as possible) and do a SAS when I can afford it?

I'll check that thread out. I know the idler arm and tie rod are bent. All the bushings are screwed and the right cv joint, the left boot are shot. I don't know what else. That's what I have been told. The engine was fried, so I dropped a new 22re in. I'm still working on the little things. The guy I bought it from said is hung left real hard and wobbled when you got over 25. The truck is at my parents shop being as I live in the city so I cant look at it right now. I can take my time with this project....

Definitely plan on buying a Heavy Duty idler arm if you plan on running 33s. There are several different brands but you can also get a idler arm brace if you would rather go that route.
Make sure to check all your steering linkages, wheel bearings, ball joints. And make sure to get rid of the wobble. A wobble at 25 mph is not good and can get someone killed if the part gives way on the road somewhere.

You can also search for TC's threads and stuff. He wheels his runner hard, running 33's and ARB lockers and stuff. He runs MOAD just 'bout every year with CoTTORA. Search up his threads, maybe send him a PM on what he might suggest for certain things.

It my junk yard idea any good for parts assuming I'm keeping the IFS (looks like I am going to, not doing anything too crazy off road in a DD)? I might as well toss some BJ spacers in there while I got the front end taken apart.

for some stuff, yes. Send a PM to Death Cougar, a member here who works at Nix99, a Toyota/Lexus wrecking yard here in Washington. I have 2 complete CV joints that came off my '91 that just need new boots, if 1 of yours is totally shot. I replaced both of them thru Death Cougar at Nix99....

You could always just upgrade the whole enchilada. The kit doesn't include steering equipment but the company does sell an upgrades system.

other fun things that are cheap that improve handling is a nice steering stabilizer. Don't get all funny on us and buy the triple stabilizer just get a nice upgrade with the single. It has worked wonders for my steering components. Less shock to the wheels when you do something goofy.

If and when you decide to do the ball joint spacers go ahead and replace your ball joints while you're in there. Also do yourself a favor and get the remaned toyota cv's or buy new toyota cv's. I read many threads that say the autozone, o'rielly, napa brand cv's suck and break a little easier. I don't know how much trith is in that statement but it led me to purchasing new toyota cv's 6 years ago and i've never looked back.

NW off road has some "pre-set" torsion bars that are supposed to raise you 1 1/2"- 2" higher than stock and be stronger. http://www.northwestoffroad.com/parts/torsionbars.html
Do you think thats a bad move (planning on 33's)? The guy I got this truck from beat the hell out of it, and just about everything needs fixin'. Thats fine by me, just don't know much about IFS.
