IFS rebuild

I am going to be rebuilding my IFS and buying the wabfab 2" lift kit with the AAL and the BJ spacers. I also want to replace the ball joints and the tie rods. I have rack and pinion and all the kits I can find are for the older linkage style.

So does anyone know where I can get all 4 ball joints and rod ends? Reliable? OEM or aftermarket?

Any advice will be appreciated but please dont suggest SAS because its only 2wd and I dont have the money or desire to do an SAS.

i rebuilt mine with napa parts (moog i think) check your local place

Or you could do it right (IMO) with genuine parts from ToyotaPartSales.com. That's what I did...

Some of the cheap TRW boxes from Advanced Auto Parts will contain "555" brand parts which are made in Japan. This is the only brand I will use other than oem for steering or suspension parts. I would assume the ebay stuff is China made, possibly not bad but the quality control of Chinese made parts don't have a good track record.

Great prices and great customer service. I went with Spicer professional BJs and control arm bushing and was happy to see all were made in Japan and not China.

Im gonna ask the guy where they are made I can get the whole kit for what the dealer charges for one rod.

But I guess you get what you pay for.

The kit is $100 plus shipping but I emailed the guy he says they are O.E. parts made in china. So I dont think ill be getting them. Here is the item number again 140158906127. Rockauto.com doesnt have the right inner rod for the rack and pinion(maybe they do but not under the 94 T100 dlx, im gonna call them on monday ill let you know. but they have japanese and american made parts for less than the stealership. Looks like ill be putting this off for a while til I can afford to do it right.

Have you checked with strap22 & trdparts4u (members here)? They work at toyotaPartSales.com and usually have very good prices on factory parts. It's definitely worth checking... For almost everything, I've quit buying 3rd party parts and just buy from them...

I checked the site and the prices are insane they want $113 for one inner rod. I understand there is a warranty on the parts and they are factory certified and all that but that does not justify the price being 10 times what I can get it for other places. Especially considering these parts are meant to be replaced every few years depending on use. Thanks though.

For my truck ('91, 4WD, 22R-E), the inner tie rod from Toyota lists for $49, outer $46, adjusting tube is $18. So most online dealer parts places will be about $35 for the tie rod ends and $12 for the adjuster. The relay rod or center link (the part replaced for free under the recall) lists for $155, which is usually quoted for about $113. That does not wear out and does not get replaced periodically like the rod ends. Ball joints from Toyota list at $63 and quoted at $46. That's as cheap as NAPA for an equally good part.

ok again my truck is rack and pinion dave yours is not so it is cheaper. It is the inner rod that is $113 it threads into the linear gear that connects to the pinion. Very different from your linkage type steering.

Please read the post before you respond I have said several times that it is rack and pinion.

Not being rude but it seems people will reply to a post before they have even read it.

Yeah, my mistake, work has been really long days. So I was rechecking with the right truck...

The NAPA catalog doesn't seem to say specifically, but it does sort of look like there are TREs for both rack & pinion and conventional. Have you gone in and matched them visually? The inner TREs on the two systems is a lot different. Isn't the inner TRE inside the rack assembly? I'd be skeptical if there's that much difference, it always seems the part through Toyota is much closer to the NAPA price than that.

no worries it happens alot here.

Anyway there is a ball/socket joint which I think is the reason for the high cost of this part. The rod has a ball on the end and the socket end is threaded and goes into the rack assembly.

Yeah, that's what the diagram looked like. When you get 90% as good (or maybe better) part for a lot less, no reason to stick with them. Like you say, if it's strong enough, ball joints and TREs wear out anyway. Good luck, back to lurk mode just following the thread.

honestly Im gonna get rid of it and get a 4 runner. there just isnt enough seating in the t100. if someone wants it I just rebuilt the 3.0 with all factory parts A/C is cold and it has wide wheels. wanna see some pics of it click on the link in my sig im in FL.
