IFS front pinion seal leak!!! rebuild???
can i just take it apart and put a new seal in or should i wait and take it to a shop??? i dont have any fancy tools and dont know the extent of this project. the shop quoted me 150-200 bucks unless it needs a new bearing then it would be more
i dont have much money and would like to do this as cheap as possible.....

I do not really have any advice on where do get it fixed but this same thing happened to me this winter and I did not know it leaked and my hubs were locked in because of all the snow and the front end storted howling and i chewed up all the gears now i am swapping thirds for 4.88's

that would be nice maybe with lockers
but i dont have that kind of money (work is reeeaaaaalllllyy slooooowww)
SAS would be ideal but not cheaper than 200 bucks lol

pinion seal
yea you could probably do it yourself but you need to make sure that the preload is still good when you go to bolt the output flange up, and you are going to need a new pinion nut, i advise tack welding the new nut on after you got it all back together.

real easy.. 4 bolts and nuts to drop the drive line.. a 30mm nut on the pinion flange.. pull the flange off, take a flat blade screw driver and pop the old seal out.. get the new one and put it in place, i taped mine in very carefully with a SMALL hammer ( no BFH for this one lol), rubbed a little grease on the seal surface, slid the pinion flange back on, torqued the nut back down, put the driveline back on and SHIZAM no more leaky pinion seal

i like the thought of SHIZAM lol sounds easy arizonaguy said something about making sure the preload is still good:/ how would i be sure???

just make sure there isnt any slop in the assembly and get a new pinion nut tack weld it or stake it as they say and use red locktite i feel safer having it tacked in a couple of spots though.
