IFS Diff Question

K I'm a rookie so take it easy on me....tried searching but couldn't find what i was looking for....so i decided to ask you guys/gals

I'm thinking of buying a ifs diff from craigs which I believe is 4.56:1 according to his axle code that he gave. It is totally removed from the truck. It has add vac lines. My question is that when I spin the pinion flange, the axle flange (passenger side...i know driver's side don't spin because its not actuated) spins but only a little. I can spin the pinion flange and hold the pass axle flange, so only the pinion flange spins, is that how its supposed to be. I know that how to check the gears (spin axle flange 2x and count the pinion flange rotation) but is it suppose to spin like that where i can hold the axle flange? I'm thinking because its an open diff thats y. Or is his ifs diff busted? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

if the diff it's an open one then you could do what you are discribing.
if you hold the axle shaft with your hand it's like the tire was stuck with a rock and being a open diff the power would get to the free tire in this case the axle shaft that it's not actuated.
