I got questions about switching v6's mines blown

i have a 3.0 v6 in my 1990 toyota 4runner.

Wondering how much people think it'd cost to switch the v6 into a 22re toyota engine.

And what it would cost from 3.0 v6 and put a new 4.0 v6 engine in it.

Can i have help with some ideas.?

If you think that the 3VZ is slow, you don't want a 22R-E. Besides that, you'll have to change motor mounts, wiring harness, and many other things. Thus far, I haven't heard of anyone swapping in one of the new 4.0 V6's. You will find that the vast majority who swap from the 3VZ go to the 3.4L 5VZ. There is tons of information on that swap everywhere on here. Just use the search tool.

mines the 3vz i think..

I dont care about speed. i 4wheel alot. 22re's are most dependable engines ive had 3other yotas.

I Know a guy in my town that made it into a 4.0

but the 3.0's i know blow head gaskets alot

my yota doesnt even run on all cylinders.

Do you think i should just get my head gasket shaved and fix my cylinders and thats it or what??

I guess that depends. I would pull the heads, have the valves checked out, and see what kind of shape the bottom end is in. Most of the time, the bottom end of those engines don't create the problem. When you say it is "blown up", do you mean that it has blown a head gasket? Or is there a more serious problem?

it has a blown head gasket.

also does not run on all 6cylinder.s

runs like it has lower gears. somebodhy said they think that its not running on lal 6cylinders the gearing look normal.

Yeah, I would definitely have the head checked out first. It could be causing the majority of your problems. How many miles are on the engine? If it's fairly high, the wear on the bearings may be enough that you would want to rebuild the whole thing. Or swap it out. That would probably end up being cheaper, especially if you can't do the work yourself. My dad had the top end of his 3.0 rebuilt this past year through the local dealership, and nearly spent $2,000.

Yeah it gets expensive. But you think the head gasket being blown would cause it running low and making it so it feels like its not running on all cylinders?

Forget the 3.0 or 22RE. While the 22RE is a good, bullet-proof motor, the pain of the swap would not be worth it. A 3.4 from a later model of 4Runner or Tacoma is almost a bolt-in swap, with some wiring and minimal fab work to be done. You can probably find the engine and computer for under $2000 if you look hard enough and throw another grand or so into it for other parts, and have a truck that will smoke the 3.0/22RE equipped trucks and get better mileage while it's at it.
