How hot does your 3.0 run? Poll. Bad thermostat?
I was thinkin that my 3.o was running too cold because the needle barely comes up on the gauge. So to test my theory after i brought the truck to operating temperature (or at least i thought it was) and i took an infrared gun and pointed it at the top of the radiator right at the neck where the coolant flows in.
I am getting a reading of 165 farenheit.
Is this what everyone else gets?
If the thermostat is bad should i replace it with the 180 or 195 degree thermostat?
Thanks

I've had the same problem, and bought a replacement thermostat. 4crawler.com has a good discussion on the 2 stage thermostat which is applicable for the 22re, but I'm not sure about the 3.0. The feedback I've gotten is that if it is running cold, the t-stat is likely stuck open. Since it is an easy fix, through in a new one rated 190 and see whether that helps regulate the temp to more "normal" levels.

180* F, actually it should be 82* C. You don't want a 195* t-stat on an engine that has a t-stat on the return side of the radiator, and easily blows HGs.
