how to drop front diff
hey guys its been awhile.
im working on replacing my oil pan gasket on my 87 4x4, and i cant for the life of me get the oil pan out.
i have tried raising the engine, and raising the tranny at the bellhousing, neither of which has given me enough clearence. i have read that dropping the front diff is the easiest way to go about this.
anyone have any instructions or insight into this?
thanks
Parker

I'd drop the diff. Lots of room under there when it's out.
To make it a bit easier, tie back both cv's with wire or string. To seperate the cv's from the diff is a bit fiddly but it's doeable.
Before you put it back in, knock all the splined bolts off the diff. Thread a nut on the bolt before hitting them. This make re-assembly much easier.
Having a pneumatic impact wrench does too.
