How do you test the Tach?
I purchased a SR5 cluster off ebay for my fathers 1988 Toyota 2wd Dually w/ 22re and 4sp because the speedo in the original cluster was toast. So I installed the new oil sender for the gauge (replaces the idiot light) and put the cluster in... Well the Tach doesnt work... And my father took the truck home. (cross country trip)
The donor truck was supposed to be an EFI 4cyl Non-Turbo truck.
How can I tell if this came from a carburated truck?
Is there a way to test the tach?
Would the pinout change from one year to next?
I downloaded the FSM in .pdf but any help would be appreciated.

Sometimes they are not plug and play and you have to move some pins. You can test the tach by hard-wiring a line from the tach terminal on the back of the cluster through the fire wall and connect it to the negative terminal on the coil. This is how I had it wired full-time when I had an SR5 cluster because no matter how I moved the pins around I couldn't get it right lol.

I can't remember exactly the screw, but on the back of the cluster it should say P by the tach, it means tach pulse, connect the cluster and that wire to the pulse and run it to the coil, voila!
