How to deal with a rounded tranny fill bolt...
SHould've expected it. I was about to change the oil for the tranny today, but I can't undo the fill bolt at all. I PB blasted the hell out of it, used a hammer to tap it slightly and it ain't budging at all.
Anyone have any suggestions/ideas for this? Luckily I didn't undo the drain plug first, but do they sell replacement fill/drain plugs at the auto parts stores or is it a dealer only item?

junkyard! Probably get it for free if you throw it in your pocket. Not saying i condone that kind of behavior but to each his own. plus while your there you can find other crap you need. If you like me a trip to the local yard has yielded many good finds even when i'm not looking for anything. Otherwise yeah probably the dealer.

#1 Try a pipe wrench.
#2 Weld a nut to it.
#1 failed for my rear diff, but #2 worked like a charm. From the heat of the weld, it was finger tight afterward.
I bought mine at a local parts store.

You can always take the shifter out and fill it through the shifter hole as well with a funnel. That's what I did when I found out my fill plug was stripped.

Oh. I just might end up doing that. I gave up for the night, has anyone had any success with the extractor bolts? I can pick up a set at sears for 20 bucks.

i always grab atleast a couple drain plugs if there is nobody lookin lol
and the thought (i'm NOT going to do this...it's just a straight up bad idea..LOL) has crossed my mind before on going into the yard after dark and getting a grille for my '86 that they want $75 for!!!!...like i said though..i don't steal...lol and i have asked the owner of the yard before if he minds me grabbin bolts and such and he don't care, but his employees flip over it lol

I just changed my tranny and transfer case fluid a couple weeks ago. I used a Impact gun to remove the fill and drain plugs. Just make sure you hold the gun on there firmly.

been there done that first off get a PROPER SOCKET i think its a 22 mm DONT FORK around with trying to find a standard thats close thats why this happened !!!
hammer and chisel it out tapping it out one tap at a time its soft alum now get a replacement from the boneyard or da dealer and lesson learned metric on metric
