I filled up the other day and did the milage calculations, including tire size conversion, i have 31s, I rounded up but really got 16.9mpg. With a 3.0L anyone else have this happen regularly?

Does that seem low or high to you? That is what i'd expect for a 3.0 4Runner with mixed driving.

My 22RE gets 17mpg mixed with a couple really big hills thrown in.

I always get at least 16 and usually a little better then that. I live in a small town, stop signs every block or so. I drive 8 blocks to work, 3 blocks to the gym and about 10 blocks to my shooting range on the outskirts of town. A lot of stop and go, but I do drive on the highway some. These highways are just that, the interstate is 125 miles away. The best Ive ever done was 21, all highway. Im driving 700 miles this weekend and Im curious to see what I get......regards......Rick

i can't remember the last time i saw a thread regarding fuel economy or gear/tire ratio....wierd....

A guy recently told me he got 35mpg in his 94 pickup with a manual 3.0. I don't believe it, but he seems to think his calculations are correct.

I've been getting about 13mpg in my 3.0 manual 4Runner, but that's alot of off-road use and alot of stop and go.

i'm not sure if you think 17 is good or bad, but it's pretty high in my opinion for a 3.0 i get 13.

I get around 13-15 with my v6 3.0 auto with 31x.10.5x15 with stock 410 gears

That guy has a very vivid imagination. 35mpg is not possible on that vehicle.

I've got 26mpg with my 4Runner driving like an absolute nun on the highway never going above 55mph.

That's what I was thinking, but I didn't want to argue with him about it. He is one of those "know it all, but not really"
kinda guys. I don't think you could coast downhill in neutral and get 35mpg in his truck. He also has a fiberglass camper so that's gotta add some weight.

Wow i think thats real good for a 3.slow a few of my friends have them it takes them $30-$40 worth of fuel to do a trip my old corolla did with $5 or my ranger did with $10...even my old ford halfton i had did it for $15 lol...

i get around 20. Then again, i got a 22re, usually never even go on the freeway, and gun it off stoplights because i can.

To get better mpg, shift early, accelerate slow and at the speed limit, run stop signs

With my 3.0, I would average around 350-375 kms (217-233 miles) on a tank of fuel (55 liters or 14 US gallons), which is about 16 mpg.

After my 3.4 swap, this increased to 400-425 kms on the same amount of fuel, sometimes as high as 450 kms (280 miles), which is 20 mpg.

Last weekend, I pulled the mechanical fan off and replaced it with an electical fan and got 505 kms (314 miles) out of my 55 liter tank. This works out to 22 mpg.

All these are highway miles, through the Rocky Mountains, and at different times of the year, so I feel they are fairly accurate. I'm also running 33" BFG A/T TA KOs, and have corrected for the size.

I was getting about 20 in 2 and 14 in 4 until I got the 31's, cam, and intake. I'm running now on a full tank and going to check on next fill, prob Sunday. I read a thread earlier about adding 10% to the miles to accommodate for the 31's, is this about right? I have stock gears.

Well, I just filled up and I'm averaging 18. That's if the calculation is right. I figured 10% on mileage so that just put me over 250 and I filled up with about 13.8 so I'm about 18. I'm hopping that this is low...This is with 31X10.5, stock gears, 5 spd, and a 268 cam.
