Hi guys, car is making a lower end noise; would appreciate a diagnosis (vid)

Hi Yotatech,

My 4Runner started making a lower end noise starting around last month. From around the middle of December to end of January I would only drive it about 4 miles round trip 4 times a week. Could the noise be due to the short driving distances?

The car has 184,000 miles, never had any bottom or top end work from what I'm aware of. Automatic transmission and V6. I've read on Yotatech and it seems 185-200k is when the 3VZ-E starts needing a rebuild, could one be not too far for me?

I appreciate any help.

Thanks.

Here's the video of my car running, bottom end. It's about 70 mb and 40 seconds long.

All I heard was a slight ticking sound....

I will tell you what I have experienced with mine and maybe you can test this and see if it fixes your problem..

I started hearing a bad knock in the bottom end of my engine and it was only getting worse.. I had resolved to the fact that I was in need of a rebuild, which I could not afford and did not have time for, or a replacement...

Had my neighbor look at it and he figured it out...

Was not the engine (internals) at all.

He turned on the a/c and the noise changed/went away...

Turns out it was the a/c clutch...

The noise would always go away if I increased the RPMS, so I thought it was a rod knock...

I cut off the a/c belt and the noise is gone...

Just give this a try and see if it helps..

You can always remove all the belts (p/s. a/c. alt) and see if the noise goes away...
