Hesitation Bogging 22r Carbed
I'm still at it....
During the rebuild, I replaced the thermostat and since then the gauge sits at 1/4 where as before it settled at just over halfway. I think it may have been a cooler rated thermostat.
Which is best (Northern CA) and would cooler engine temps cause the symtoms listed below?
After a recently blown head gasket, I replaced the head and cam with uprated parts from Ted @ Engnbldr on my 86 carbed PU.
The engine runs great – mostly – it will cruise at 80 all day long and pull strongly, especially in the right rev band. If I try and accelerate in a gear slightly too high (4th @ 40), it will hesitate and miss.
Its worst on the over-run. Cruising downhill, off the gas, try and pick it up again and it really stutters
If I tap the throttle form idle, it hesitates and then picks up.
Before the re-build, everything ran great.
It’s got new plugs, wires, timing chain, filters. Cleaned all EGR parts and checked the routing (repeatedly) of the VAC lines. All ground wires are in good shape.
Timing correct and AAP checked.

Bump to the top for you, hope some can help you out. I also have a '86 22r P/U and looking down the road to do the EB head and cam like you did.
Wish I could help...
