to be honest i want to get some 35x12.5 A/T BFGoodrich Tires so i am biased to the larger tires. If you are gonna do heavy off roading then the bigger the better.

I would recommend sticking with 31x10.5xr15 because they are about $65 cheaper a piece, better acceleration, better gas milage, and no modifications required.
But bigger tires always look awesome:
A few things to check:
Is the rim back spacing close to the same? - different back spacing can cause clearance issues.
Is the rim hub diameter compatable? - toyota rims are lug centric, but you still need to have your hub fit through the rim hole.
Will your lift (you will need one) clear a 285 width tire without rubbing at full turn?
Are you willing to do some trimming to fit the larger tire?
You don't need to re-gear for 285s, but your truck will feel sluggish with larger tires.
