help rattle from new clutch
don't really like having to ask but I need help. so recently I replaced my clutch because of a leaky seal on the shaft the t.o. bearing rides on it was really bad. bolted everything up but when I started it a really loud rattle was heard from my bell housing, so I ripped it back out because I forgot to put on the t.o. bearing collar, found out shortly after that it was the wrong t.o. bearing that came with my clutch kit so I threw the old one back in because it was still working well. pilot bearing went in without a problem, brand new flywheel, clutch disk and pressure plate looked right and bolted up fine, the rattle at idle went away but now when the clutch is disengaged it sounds like a hollow clicking noise or rattle and I cant seem to find anything anywhere about it. if anyone has any ideas or can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. sorry about the length of this post but I figure more info is better than not enough.

If the throw out bearing in the kit was wrong, are you sure the disc was right? There are a few different manual transmissions. And are you sure it's Not coming from the input shaft or in the trans? Did you pul the input shaft or any bearing when you did the seal?

i also seem to be having a related problem with a 94 2wd.
are the toyota flywheels aluminum? i just saw a video of a noise that sounded the same where the guy said it was because of a steel clutchplate on an aluminum flywheel.

while everything I have seen suggests there is not much difference between the 3.0 and 22re pressure plate, the clutch disk its self matches the 22re which leads me to believe the pressure plate is correct. got a new t.o. bearing and am going to replace the clips that hold the bearing to the fork on Monday and hopefully that fixes it. the only other thing I can think of is to make the parts house give me a different clutch kit completely, if its not the to bearing it has to be the pressure plate by my thinking. but no I didn't touch any other bearing when I replaced the seal, just pulled the cone off replaced seal and put it back didn't touch input shaft and the noise was not there before faulty parts is mostly what im thinking. also I just replaced my flywheel because it wasn't to much more than getting it resurfaced but I believe they were both steel, or something like it definitely to heavy to be aluminum.

im still trying to figure out what is the right way. reassembling now... im seeing all these photos of it a certain wasy but it is opposite of the FSM but the FSM doesnt make any sense. i cant get my spring to seat anywhere with how it is drawn in the pictures. im wanting to do it "backwords" but i dont know how to do it right! driving me crazy.

well i put everything back in. put on clip like what i saw people doing in the photos. noise still persists. higher pitched rattle at 47- 53 MPH in 4th or 5th hard acceleration. goes away at 54 even if im accelerating hard still. doesn't happen, or at least not noticeably accelerating normally through 47 - 53 MPH. im really depressed about this problem... i may have to take it to a shop... i dont like the thought of that at all...

You sure thats coming from the bell housing? Also does it happen in both 4thor and 5th? My noise only hsppens when i press the pedal, doesnt matter what gear and havent road tested it because it sounds like catastrophic failure could result

Mine is only hard acceleration top of 4th bottom of 5th. I don't know much about trans or driveline but now I'm leaning towards driveline. I didn't mark it when I pulled it off, but it has marks on it that I'm going to try and line up. I thought I didn't need to because my mechanic friend said it wasn't needed.

I honestly can't really tell exactly where the sound is comming from. Sounds like the back when I have the back window open. Sounds like right below me when I have shifter boot and plate off.

I didnt mark ether of mine ether, didnt see the point, but i had my clips on backwards i got new ones anyway. I would ask the mechanic friend of yours for diagnosis help before taking it in

ouch that's too bad man, at cold start up I get that tick noise when the clutch is disengaged. it goes away after I move the vehicle and shift a few times, im hoping I just need to bleed the lines or adjust my linkage a bit but I did run the tranny for about 2 years with no oil in it so it may be just a problem in there from that and I never noticed. its definitely not bad enough for me to tear down a 4th time just thought I would mention it
