Help needed on 94 Runner engine removal
I have pulled everything off a 94 Runner (V6 3VZRE) in preparation for removing the engine but have come to a grinding halt when trying to separate the tranny from the block. Unlike the 22RE, the firewall does not allow easy access to the top most bolts which hold the block to the tranny. Should I be pulling the tranny (automatic) out with the block, or is there a secret to getting to the top most bolts? Any help is greatly apprecaited.

When I pulled mine (manual), I originally was going to pull the whole thing. I realised that I didn't have the height I needed with the engine crane. But while pulling it up, it gave me access to the top bolts. I pulled the top bolts, loosened to bottom ones, put it back down, and pulled the bottom bolts.

Generally those top bolts can be reached with a long series of extensions... some weeble style intermixed will also help. I am almost back to the transfer case output flange getting the right angle on mine.
They are hard to get to.... that's for sure.

Support the transmission tailshaft and remove the crossmember, allowing you to tilt the transmission down so you can access the top bolts. I pulled the tranny and transfer case with mine. Trust me, you don't want to do it that way...seriously.

On my removal I moved the engine and tranny forward in the engine bay about 4 inches and got to those top bolts with a breaker bar from the top, (inside the engine bay).

Got to all my bolts with just a couple of extensions from under the car. You just need to look for space in the right places, and when you find it, it's not that bad actually.
