HELP - Fuel pump / fuel tank question

Hi all,

i am the one with the 88 PU that has been having fuel issues...... i am trying to replace the fule pump..... drained the tank (that was fun) dropped the tank, and when i did i found this (i hope the picture is here) there were 2 sets of wires going to the top of the tank. one where the fule lines go ( i assume this is to the fuel pump) and another set away from the fuel lines (i assume this is the gauge). One of the 2 wires attached to where the fuel lines go in was broken. there was a large amount of green flake (oxidization ?) near by. The wire that is still attached looks to be the ground. attached to a screw that is attached to the metal plate that all the lines go through. the other goes to a small round disk (about the size of a nickle) that is about 1/4" tall and appears to actually be clear, or at least translucent.

What is this part? can i just soder the wire to it? or do i need to replace the whole disk?

I cant get the picture to paste here.... i guess i can email a pix to anyone that can help.

THANX

t

there was not very much left (almost nothing)..... it was covered in epoxy like the coating on a M&M.... pealed that away and sodered it to the copper center. turned the key and VOILA!!!!!! the pump whirred like a kitten.
i am going to mix up some 5 min epoxy and coat the whole thing again.... if it lasted 20 years from the factory, mine is sure to last a couple.

will be wheeling tomorrow and i get to return the $165 fuel pump for beer money!!!!

thanx agian all

I had to do the same thing. I had nothing to solder to so I just glued it then epoxy. It lasted 4 years until I scraped the truck.
