Help with choosing what trans will work

Just bought a 87 4 runner with a 22RE….said it had a bad 5 speed in it and they gave me a 93 toyota pickup 5 speed V6 with it. Can someone fill me in on what the numbers everyone is using on here for the different trans out of different year model vehicles and can the 93 5 speed from behind the V6 bolt right up to the 87 4 runner 22RE?

Thanks in advance….i'm new to the site and trying to learn as much as i can

a 22R-E 5 speed is a W56 transmission. These came on just about all of the fuel injected 22R-E trucks and 4-runners I believe. Carb'd motors came with a G (5 speed) or L (4 speed) depending on years.

A V6 5 speed transmission is an R150. These are used on all of the V6 trucks and 4runners until 94ish. Very similar to the turbo truck R151 transmisison, and similar to the turbo Supra R154 transmission (the Supra ones have a longer input shaft, so they don't work out of the box in trucks)

You CAN bolt the R150 to the 22R-E, but it's not cheap. You need to find an R151 bellhousing out of a turbo (22R-TE) truck to do it, and those are hard to find. Your better off selling the R150, and buying a W56.

Edit: And welcome to the forum. Your third toyota, and you just NOW registered?

Out of curiosity, what exactly is "wrong" with the current transmission? It's not very common to hear of one going bad,

well not exactly sure yet…should have the motor fired up tmrw at some point. With the trans back in the vehicle we put it in all gears and tried rolling the vehicle. 1st and 2nd couldn't push the vehicle so that was good, 3rd it made a grinding noise as if it was trying to find the gear (thinking that its not gonna have 3rd gear), 4th 5th and reverse all don't allow the vehicle to roll so that's all we've come up with so far…..after tmrw hopefully if everything goes alright, i'll be able to actually see if anything major is wrong with the trans
