Help, alarm, keyless entry and remote start
So I thought to myself it would be nice to add a remote start, keyless entry alarm type setup. My truck is the base 95 model 4runner but it does have power windows and locks so its gotta be add on available. I have some car stereo/speaker install experience so I think I can handle it. My question is, can the truck take it. Has anyone on here added this option? Also if you have tell me what unit you used and if you'd recommend it.

If you have never done it before make sure you use the12volt.com like Elton said, it will help a lot and save you a lot of time.
That said, a few words of advice from someone who has installed a lot of these. Take your time and make sure it is neat and all the wires are protected. You can cause major problems if you are messy with your wiring or if you have a wire rub through and short out. Be sure you use good quality connectors and make good, clean, sound connections. I recommend using a good crimper if using crimp-on connectors and covering connections with shrink wrap. Make sure you use the correct gauge of wire if you must do any customizing which you probably will. Figuring out and wiring the door locks used to be the hardest thing, but most of the new systems have the relays built in so it is much easier, and the12volt.com will tell you what wires you need to tap.
Try to hide your control unit where it cannot be found easily and run your wires as much as possible within the main looms of the vehicle. I like to make it look like it was a factory install. If you run any wires through the firewall use grommets or and existing grommet.
An alarm is a little more complex than speakers and stereos as you will tap into the ignition, lights, door locks, etc....but you should be fine. It will be a lot of fun! Have a blast!
