OK, let's face it, I'm not getting any brighter. Have left my headlights on at work twice in the last month. 86' 4x4, Air, PS.

Does anyone know how to locate the headlight reminder that came on some of these trucks? Is there a Toyota VIN site that will give me the build specs?

hmmm, not sure, kinda wish mine had it though.

you could always do some rewiring of the relay and make it so that they can only come on when the ignition is turned.

I did that to my old Cherokee that had the automatic light shutoff thingy, but the problem was they wouldn't shut off at all. So I just turned them into daytime running lights, lol.

I may be wrong, but I believe the headlight reminder was part of the Courtesy Light package, which also provisioned the ignition key light and door lights, both on latency timer(s). So I'm thinking that there's more than just one component to it.

I too got tired of running down my battery. I ended up wiring something up using some standard radioshack parts. Here is my post asking for some how-to action. Read the_dingman's post. He pointed me in the right direction...

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I had thought about the always on with ignition, but the R/S buzzer seems a simple fix as well. I'll spend some shop time over the weekend.

Just do a custom kill switch when the doors open. like in a Tundra. i loved that feature and wish to do it my self one day. But it was part of the Courtesy Light package cause i have the headlight reminder. maybe if you browse through a FSM you might find it.

just seen this post,i also get tired of forgetting about my lights being on after i get out.
Well i was just installing a new cd player and found a light reminder box with a plug going to it.

''not my truck'' i couldn't find my camera'' but it's behind this on the left side

well i popped of the case and it has a little speaker in it and i'm guessing mine doesnt work

My 95 4runner had one. Maybe you could retrofit one into your 86?

I put one in my 1991, just used a small buzzer from radioshack and a diode. Solder or crimp the diode to one of the buzzer leads, heatshrink any exposed wiring. Attach one wire to the Lights fuse, the other to the accessory fuse. Now the diode will only let electricity flow one way, so if your lights are on and the acc goes off (goes to gnd) the buzzer will turn on. The diode will not let electricity flow when the acc is on and the lights are off. If you wire up the buzzer/diode combo and it buzzes with the lights off and the acc on, swap the wires on the fuse locations. I've had this setup for 15 yrs, no issues.

Are you looking for the stock buzzer box? Its the small black box right above the brake pedal under the dash. Most people disable it because it is so annoying.

I got one from walmart that just plugs in the fuse pin for the tail lights at the fuse block.
Works great and only cost a buck or two!
