I would do it more for the better flow, and less heat against your engine, reducing risk of a HG failure.

(Or so Ive read)

Doug Thorley makes headers for the 3.0, including a Y pipe to the cat.

Headers are a great mod for the 3.0. LCE are probably the highest quality, but I've also heard good things about the Doug Thorley ceramics. Summit Racing sells them for $577. That may include the crossover and pipe to the cat; I know it used to, but the listing isn't clear, so I guess you'd have to ask.

EDIT: on Thorley's site, the instruction sheet does seem to suggest that the connector pipes are included (but I'd still ask):

Bankrupt, out of business, liquidation, some rumor that "other" well known companies will be picking up parts of their product line.

Seems kinda silly to say something like that. Not everybody wants to spend ~8+ hours and well over $1000+ for an entire engine swap. I bought my Doug Thorley headers from Summit for $525 shipped. It's no race truck, but it made an improvement and I feel safer knowing that crappy factory crossover is gone.

my truck came with a set of headers, and i have no idea who made them. but it's a 3.0/auto. the throttle cable to the transmission is now burnt from a sloppy install. from the 3.0's i've driven though, i would say headers only made a *slight* difference. i wouldnt buy them for performance alone. the price:performance ratio just isn't there. but to buy them for possible head gasket longevity and peace of mind is another story.

I ask because the auto trans does gives some fit ment issues for the headers.

North west off road makes headers for the 3.0. I would google them. I checked them out before I bought mine from Downey. They were to be second best to downey by reviews. but there is such a thing as a cheap mans header which will get rid of your factory y-pipe which is where they say you loose your h.p.

Yes, the auto hangs down lower and you will need a different crossover.

LCE makes stuff that will fit your rig
