head gasket oil leak...bad?
I've got an 87 4runner, 22re. had it rebuilt last year. not a great experience...been chasing leaks all year. Down to just one now. It is an oil seep out of the back passenger side corner, seems to be below the head (unless oil is seaking around from the back hemisphere thing on the valve cover gasket....but I'm pretty positive I've got that one tight). Since I just fixed the oil pan leak a few weeks back, I'm not sure how much oil is leaking, but there is always a drop or two falling when parked.
The rebuild is now 13 months old and the shop wont help with the repair
I'm going to add some lucas oil treatment next oil change and have considered just cleaning up the area near the seep and stuffing it with silicon (the ultra gray, unless someone can suggest something better).
Is this stupid? Should I just assume the HG will fail further and waste a day replacing it. Feeling lazy I called a shop for an estimate, and they said $950...so that's out of the question.
Thanks for any insight.
