Haunted emergency brake

The light on my dash will randomly glow, typically just once a trip. It will slowly glow up from nothing, never quite reaching full brightness. I'll jiggle the handle, and nothing. Even pull it out a bit and the light will get brighter(Normal Brightness). At times, the glow is so bright it even kicks the cruise control off. But by the time I've finished fiddling with the handle, the light blacks out and all is normal.

Like I said, it only happens once a trip with absolutely no pattern. Well the only pattern being the light starting from black, flickering solid increasing in intensity and then instantly shutting down. Weird.

"Haunted emergency brake"

I would not really call it voodoo, let's just say you are, "covering all your bases."

1. a live chicken
2. a sharp knife
3. I forgot what three was...

I guess we are just going to have to cover all your bases some other time.

I second that

if it's full, try pulling out the little drop-in filter thingy; occationally for whatever reason, the float on the sensor will hang up on it and cause a low reading

My 91 PU did the same thing when I bought it... after chasing it for almost a year, I forgot to put it back in after bleeding the brakes when I replaced both rear wheel cylinders, and noticed the light turned off for good, cept fer when I pull the e-brake I have since lost that little filter thing, lol

The brake light would come on randomly on my ex's 92 runner, few days later, the alt got replaced cause it wouldnt charge anything.

Throw a volt meter on your battery when you are idling, should be around 12.5 - 14 volts.

Remove cap, jiggle sensor and fill up the fluid.

I finally got my truck into the garage, 4K on the oil change.

I pulled and jiggled the float/sensor on the MC and it seems to have improved my situation. I will get a short glow out of the E-brake light that is nowhere near as intense as it was. I'll keep poking around to see if I can totally alleviate the problem, but for now I'm pleased.
